Hello! My name is Felicia van Dyk and I am honored to be a Board Member of the 4p- Support Group. I live in the Los Angeles area with my husband, Anthony, and our son, Vincent, who was diagnosed with 4p-/WHS when he was 13 months old. I am currently the group’s Secretary and also enjoy editing the 4p- Support Group newsletter.
Vincent is a very happy and social little boy who is currently attends a special day class for students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing. He is one of five students in his class which includes children between the 3rd and 5th grade. The classroom is located on a typical public school campus. Vincent is one of a couple students that are studying an “alternative curriculum.” Vincent, who has mild/moderate hearing loss, has made great progress in this environment. He is communicating via speech and sign language and accelerating in reading and spelling. Prior to joining this class, Vincent was fully included at his neighborhood public school in North Hollywood, California for three years.
Vincent enjoys swimming, baseball, basketball, snow skiing and above all, playing with his friends. Beginning at six months old, Vincent participated in many therapeutic activities that have helped him to thrive. His early intervention therapies included: OT, PT, Hippotherapy, Feeding Therapy and Speech. Through the support group, we have met many wonderful families that have provided great support and friendship to us. Our family is happy to share our experiences with other 4p- families.
